The ultimate goal of using SEO (Search engine optimization) is to increase the volume of traffic to your website or blog. This is done by adding relevant content and researched keywords that will entice the search engine spiders(bots) to your website.
Of all the search engines, Google is considered one of the best, if not the best. Estimates of 75% of web traffic is generated by Google alone. This alone should make you never exclude this as a tool for promoting your website or blog.
SEO is not what I would say an overnight venture. Some learning is required along with trial and error. I recommend that you get some pre training by researching about SEO online and even consider finding a mentor who is an expert of the subject.
During your learning period still have in mind what you want to appear on your website along with what content you want to have.
Remember, CONTENT is KING.
I recommend you use a keyword research tool to help you find the hottest search engine keyword that best relates to your content. The combination of phrasing, keyword placement and the overall easiness of the search engine spiders understanding your website will definitely improve your chances of higher website ranking.
Here are a couple of steps that I feel will get you in the mind set of SEO.
1) Keyword selection – so as to not to kill a dead horse here, keep it in mind that your niche or your website should have all the necessary keywords that relate to it. If gardening is your niche…research the word gardening and find all the hottest keywords that relate to it. Believe me, with your keyword research tool you will find some words that you have never thought of.
2) Have keywords in your title. This is huge. If your title does not reflect what your article or website is about it only confuses the search engine spiders.
3) Site map. All websites big and small should have a site map. Make sure all the pages from your site are linked. Again, making it easier for the bots to do their job.
