Niche...When small is Big...
1. a place or position suitable or appropriate for a person or thing:
to find one's niche in the business world
2. pertaining to or intended for a market niche; having specific
appeal: niche advertising.
3.A recess in a wall, as for holding a statue or urn.
Now that I got the definition out of the way what does the word niche really mean in the business world. It has been said that no matter what business you are in, you must focus or narrow down you business onto one niche.
This is the only way you are going to be successful. You may think that having a business that appeals to everyone would generate more sales than a business that appeals to a small group of people.
This could be furthest from the truth. This rarely produces a good result so it would be in your best interest to just focus on one niche that solves a specific problem.
Golden rule of marketing.
Marketing is about being in the right place, at the right time, with the right message. If you try to satisfy everyone your message becomes diluted to where it won't be the right message , at the right time for anyone.
Since it is impossible to meet everyone's needs, serious thought must be taken in deciding what niche will satisfy a specific group of people. This has helped many people become very wealthy, very fast.
Though it may seem like you are turning away some potential clients, the reality is that your business can not appeal to everyone anyway. There will be some risk taking involved but with the right message and a lot of effort you will become more of an acknowledged leader in a
more targeted niche than in a larger broader one.
Life is all about taking calculated risks and starting or running a business is no different. Setting yourself apart from the pack is difficult at times, but cannot be over looked. Find your niche and
become an expert. The rewards will follow.
